Service Description

Ever watched a potter's hands coax a spinning lump of clay into a bowl and wondered what it feels like? Come find out! First Spin is a playful, one-time session at the wheel, made for complete beginners who are simply curious and ready to have a good time. You'll get your hands wonderfully muddy as you try the whole sequence: wedging your clay, centering it on the wheel, pulling up the walls, and shaping your piece. Expect splashes, laughter, a few happy accidents, and the surprising calm of clay spinning beneath your fingers. A Note on What This Class Is First Spin is a trial session, designed for joy and entertainment rather than for learning a craft. Wheel throwing is a skill-based technique, and it takes many sessions of practice to master. In one session, you'll get a real taste of the process, but please don't expect a perfect piece, or even a finished one. There's no pressure here at all. Whatever comes off the wheel, you'll have made it with your own hands, and that's the point. If you fall in love with it (many people do), we'd be delighted to see you in one of our beginner series. Prerequisites None. Complete beginners are welcome. Age - 12 + Firing No firing tickets are included, and firing is completely optional. If you'd like your piece or pieces fired, firing tickets are $15 per piece, which covers bisque firing and a clear glaze. Pieces are ready about 3-4 weeks after class. What to Bring Apron Hand towel (the studio does not provide hand towels) Clothes you don't mind getting a little muddy Come curious, come ready to play.
