Service Description
Just in time for Thanksgiving — throw the pie plate your holiday table's been waiting for. In this single-session wheel class, you'll focus in on one satisfying form: a wide, flat plate built to hold your favorite pie. You'll learn to throw a large flat base with a properly compressed floor, curve the walls up correctly, and flatten out the sides into a true plate profile. To finish, you'll embellish the rim with a curvy, decorative edge — the kind of detail that makes a handmade piece feel special on a holiday table. Throwing wide, flat forms is a different skill from throwing cylinders — an uncompressed floor or uneven walls can lead to cracking or warping in the kiln. If you've mastered the basics but haven't thrown plates before, this session is built to fill exactly that gap. Prerequisites You must have completed a beginner wheel throwing series. You should be comfortable centering 3–4 pounds of clay on your own. Firing & Follow-Up This class does not include firing tickets. Trimming and glazing are completed in independent study sessions at an additional cost. What to Bring Hand towel — the studio does not provide towels or paper towels. Apron (optional). Soft rib with a flat edge, if you have one. Come celebrate the season and throw a pie plate worthy of your table.
