Service Description

Explore the intersection of function and creative expression in this focused course on making ceramic lamps. In this intermediate/advanced wheel-throwing class, you'll design and create a variety of lighting forms—stack lamps, table lamps, oil lamps, hanging pendant lamps, and candle lamps. We’ll dive into the technical aspects of throwing, altering, and assembling multipart forms, as well as designing for wiring or open flame use. You'll learn how to make thoughtful decisions around form, proportion, and surface to support both aesthetic and practical needs. The class will emphasize developing your own creative direction—exploring shapes, textures, and configurations that reflect your personal style and lighting sensibility. Skill level: This class is best suited for students with some wheel experience. If you’re comfortable centering and pulling a basic 3-pound cylinder, you’ll be in a great place to build on those skills. What to bring: Sketchbook or idea references, a ruler, calipers (if you have them), and any lamp hardware you'd like to incorporate. All clay and studio tools will be provided.
