Service Description

This course is designed for potters who can confidently center, pull, and trim a cylinder and are ready to take their practice further. Inspired by the spirit of pottery throwdowns, each week brings a new challenge that keeps you on your toes while building both technical skill and creative range. The pace is lively, the projects ambitious, and the results deeply rewarding. On the wheel, you’ll take on a variety of forms—from vases, serving dishes, and wide bowls to lidded jars, matching cup sets, and thrown-and-altered vessels. Timed throws and creative constraints will help you loosen up and push past perfectionism, while handbuilding techniques will be woven in to complement your wheel-thrown work. Alongside form-making, we’ll dive into surface design and finishing methods. Expect to trim, carve, slip, glaze, and experiment freely, taking cues from ceramic artists past and present, then transforming those inspirations into work that feels uniquely your own. Each Pottery Throwdown series brings fresh challenges and new projects, making it a class you can take again and again. Some challenges will be planned in advance, while others will evolve from the group’s interests and energy—ensuring the course stays dynamic and relevant to your growth as a potter. What to bring: A hand towel that you dont mind getting dirty, wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
